Fr. Phillip Brown, Esq., an attorney and member of the faculty of the school of Canon Law.

Before joining the faculty of the School of Canon Law at CUA on a full-time basis, he was Associate Professor (Canon Law) and Dean of the School of Theology of St. Mary's Seminary and University, Baltimore, and Adjunct Professor of Roman Law at the School of Canon Law at CUA. He obtained his JCL (1997) and JCD (1999) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He furthermore holds an STB (
Bachelor of Sacred Theology) from the The Catholic University of America, Washington (1989), a JD (Iuris Doctor/civil law) from The University of North Dakota-Grand Forks (1979) and a BM (Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Music Ed.) from The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor 1975. He is admitted to practice before various courts, including the United States Supreme Court, and is a member of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society. 

Since 1999, he is a member of the Canon Law Society of America and chairman of its Canon and Civil Law Committee. He currently is Assistant Professor of Canon Law at the School of Canon Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and Spiritual Director for Seminarians at Theological College, also in Washington, D.C.

He is a priest of the Diocese of Bismarck and a member of the Society of Saint Sulpice. He practiced Civil Law in Bismarck, ND from 1980-1985. He has been Chaplain at the Bishop Ryan High School, Minot, ND (1989-1995), Pastor of St. Philomena Church, Glenburn, ND (1990-1995), and Pastor of St. Wenceslaus Church, Dickinson, ND (1999-2001). In addition, he was presiding judge at the Marriage Tribunal of the Diocese of Bismarck, ND (1999-2001).
